Art Workshops

Artists will lead a workshop to craft banners and other works inspired by Native resistance to colonialism and environmental destruction. The art will be used by grassroots groups fighting to protect the local land from new oil and gas drilling and other destructive industrial projects and to draw attention to indigenous struggles across North America.

Please bring a light colored t-shirt or other fabric if you would like to screen print an item to take home.

Evening of Story-telling and Music

Join us for an evening for all Protectors to support, uplift, educate and inspire as we stand together to protect our communities from the dangers of oil and gas.  Special honored guests: First Nations environmental Justice artists; Christi Belcourt & Isaac Murdoch will be sharing traditional stories and welcoming some of our local musicians, poets, speakers and storytellers.

The cafe will be closed during this event.  Please plan to eat dinner before or after the event.

Sacred Water Walk Ceremony

Christi Belcourt & Isaac Murdoch will lead our community in a 1-2 hour Water Walk.  This extended ceremony is intended to call attention to the threats to our water and to honor it as a living being. We are hoping to have many people walking single file in this ceremony.  Women: Please bring a long skirt to wear for the water walk ceremony if you have one.

We will gather at Bob Berger Rec Center and the march will culminate in a water ceremony at Waneka Lake.
