DEMANDS FOR COUNCIL following town hall meeting with Thomas Linzey of the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund:
Protect the Community by:
1. Restoring the Climate Bill of Rights to its original version with the direct action component
This will be discussed during council comments, Merrily Mazza will request that the amendments be added to the agenda and voted on at the April 3 council meeting. THE COUNCIL MAY REFUSE TO DO SO. Speak out and demand they protect the community and not the oil and gas industry!
2. Enforce the Climate Bill of Rights; accept pro bono legal offer from the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund
3. Revamp trespass provisions in the city code to protect protestors acting for the community to stop neighborhood oil and gas drilling
Council has to make a decision at this critical moment for Lafayette public health and safety. We cannot survive Lafayette being turned into a toxic oil field. Ask the City Council to stand with the public against drilling or make way for others that will.
